Biography

Stephen James Glassman, son of Eugene James Glassman & Grace Marguerite Lesher, was born 4 September 1946 in Hays, Kansas.

Stephen earned a B.A. in philosophy from Kansas University in 1971. This degree was followed by an M.A. in English in 1981 from University of Southwestern Louisiana and an M.F.A. in creative writing in 1983 from Vermont College. He taught at the University of Miami, Miami-Dade Community College, the University of Texas at Austin, and finally was a Professor of Communication & Humanities at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, from 1984 until his retirement in 2012.

He was the author of Blood on the Moon (1990), The Near Death Experiment (2001), On the Trail of the Maya Explorer: Tracing the Epic Journey of John Lloyd Stephens (2003), It Happened on the Santa Fe Trail (2008). He co-edited several anthologies of crime fiction including Orange Pulp: Stories of Mayhem, Murder, and Mystery (2000); Crime Fiction and Film in the Southwest: Bad Boys and Bad Girls in the Badlands (2001), and Florida Crime Writers: 24 Interviews (2008).

Mr. Glassman died 19 May 2020 in Florida.
