History
Luxemburg was founded in 1925 by German Mennonites in what today is Kyrgyzstan. It is located east of the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkeck.
In the late 1920s and early 1930s, about 30 families from Romanovka and Rozhdenstvenka in Kazakhstan moved to Luxemburg. They were joined by Volga German Kulak families who had been sent there in 1939.
Volga German families were settled directly in Luxemburg following the 1941 Deportation.
In 2024, Luxemburg was annexed to the city of Kant.
Today, very few ethnic German families remain in Luxemburg.
