History: 

In 1588, following the capture of the territory by Ivan the Terrible, a fortress (Kremlin) was constructed by the Russians at this location. Astrakhan is located at the upper delta where the Volga River empties into the Caspian Sea. Many Volga German families relocated to Astrakhan over the years.

Several pastors and priests who served Volga German congregations also served congregations in Astrakhan.
