Niedecker

Nicolaus Niedecker was born about 1716 in Steinfurth, southeast of Butzbach in Oberhessen. [He was descended from Georg Nicolaus Niedecker, who had come to Steinfurth from Prague.] He married Margaretha, and they had two daughters: (1) Susanna, born 14 June 1750; and (2) Anna Maria, born 10 November 1753.

The Neidecker family immigrated to Russia in 1766, arriving from Lübeck at the port in Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard an English frigate under the command of Adam Beerfeier. Jacob Niedecker (age 24) was also on this vessel. His relationship to Nicolaus has yet to be determined.

Nicolaus Nidecker [sic], his wife Margar. Magdalena, and daughters (Susanna, age 18; Anna Maria, age 14) along with Jacob Nidecker [sic], his wife Elisabetha, and son Joh. Joseph (age ¼) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that Joh. Joseph died en route.

Nicolaus and wife Margaretha and their two daughters, along with Jacob, his wife Dorothea Bender, and 3-week-old son Adam all arrived in the Volga German colony of Nieder-Monjou on 3 August 1767 where they are recorded on the 1767 Census in Households No. 76 & 78, respectively. Both men were brickmakers.

The Jacob Niedecker family moved to Fischer in 1786, where they are recorded on the 1798 Census in Household No. Fs26. There do not appear to be any Niedecker descendants who remained in Nieder-Monjou.
