Discussion & Documentation

Conrad Kern & Maria Amalia Peter [Petri] (both widowed) were married 29 July 1766 in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lübeck.

Konrad Kern, a farmer, his wife Amalia, and children (Johann [Georg], age 17; Martin, age 13; Michael [Petri], age 13; Maria, age 11; Philipp [Petri], age 10) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 13 September 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Johann Grapp.

Conrad Kirn [sic], his wife Amalia, and children (Johann Georg, age 18; Martin, age 16; Maria, age 11 - and also Johan Michail Petri, age 15; Johan Phillipp Petri, age 12) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that Amalia died en route.

The Kern family settled in the colony of Dietel and the two orphaned Petri brothers are assumed to have settled there as well.

Travelling with the Kern/Petri family was also Andreas Flegler and his wife Katharina Margartha Petri. They also settled in Dietel. This Katharina Margaretha Petri is assumed to be a sibling of Michael & Philipp, but further research is needed to confirm this relationship.

In 1788, Michael Petri and his family moved from Kratzke to Merkel.

Philipp Petri and his wife are recorded on the 1798 census of Merkel in Household No. Mr05.

Philipp Petri is recorded on the 1834 census of Merkel in Household No. 9.

Michael Petri and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Merkel in Household No. Mr23.

The death of Michael Petri in 1834 is recorded on the 1834 census of Merkel in Household No. 15.

Georg Heinrich Petrÿ from Merkel and his family are recorded on the 1857 census of Ährenfeld.
