The parish register of St. Aegidius Catholic Church in Marbach records the births in Bernartz [sic] of the following children born to Sebastian & Anna Maria Degenhardt: (1) Anna Maria Barbara, born in May 1755; (2) Jakob, born 10 July 1757; (3) Johannes Melchior, born 20 June 1760, died 4 August 1760; (4) Anna Katharina, born 20 June 1760; (5) Johannes Adam, born 10 February 1762; and (6) Johannes Kaspar, born 30 July 1764.
Sebatian Eigenhardt [sic], a tailor, his wife Anna Maria, and children (Johann Valentin, age 18; Anna Barbara, age 14; Jakob, age 12; Anna Maria, age 6; Johann Adam, age 5; Johann Kaspar, age 2½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 29 July 1766 aboard a ship named Apollo under the command of Skipper Friedrich Detloff Mörenberg.
Valentin Degenhardt and his brothers Jakob and Johann Adam settled in the Volga German colony of Rothammel on 21 August 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 3 along with the Heinrich Frank family. The 1767 census does not record a relationship between the Degenhardt and Frank families.
(1) Jakob Degenhardt (age 36) and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Sewald in Household No. Sd04.
(2) Valentin Degenhardt (age 44) and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Sewald in Household No. Sd25.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Sebastian Eigenhardt [sic] came from the German region of Fulda. The 1767 census records that Valentin Degenhardt came from the German village of Bernhards in the Fulda region.
