Rothammel was founded on 21 August 1767 by colonists who had been recruited by Baron de Boffe. It was named after Adam Rothammel, the first mayor (Vorsteher) of the colony.
Today, nothing remains of the former colony of Rothammel. It was abandoned following the 1941 Deportation. Its streets are still visible from above via satellite imaging.
Originally, the Roman Catholic congregation in Rothammel belonged to the parish of Schuck. Later it became an independent parish.
A wooden church was built in Rothammel in 1824. In 1910, it was replaced by a new facility built of stone.
The parish in Rothammel was served by the following priests:
- Joseph Ihly (1875-1876)
- Markus Marsal
- Johannes Vetsch (1887-1894)
- Georg Dechand (1897-1906)
- J. Schneider (June 1906-?)
- Andreas Schönberger (1914-1917)
- Johannes Zimmermann (1918-1923)
- Josef Veith (1916?-1920)
- Franz Rauh (1923-1930)
