Discussion & Documentation

Johannes Treutz, a farmer, his wife Elisabeth, and children (Hans Jakob, age 17; Heinrich, age 14½; Anna Maria, age 4; Maria Anna, age 1) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 21 July 1766 aboard the snow-brig Mercurius under the command of Skipper Christian Heinrich Abelßen.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Sewald on 20 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 28.

Heinrich Treitz from Sewald and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Franzosen in Household No. Fz21.

The death of Heinrich Treutz in 1822 is recorded on the 1834 census of Franzosen in Household No. 79 along with a note that his son Simeon and stepsons Jakob & Georg Konradÿ had relocated to the colony of Kamenka. None of them, however, are recorded on the 1834 census of Kamenka, but rather in the colony of Degott in Household Nos. 8 & 11.

The 1834 census of Franzosen (Household No. 95) also records that Georg Treutz relocated to the colony of Husaren. He is recorded on the 1834 census of Husaren in Household No. 63.

Jakob Treitz [from Franzosen] is recorded on the 1834 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. 268.

The 1857 census of Degott (Household No. 9) records that Simon Treitz relocated to the daughter colony of Marienfeld in 1852.

The family of Simon Trietz from Degott is recorded on the 1857 census of Marienfeld.

The 1767 census records that Johannes Treutz came from the German village of Bürstadt in the region of Mainz.
