Degott was founded on 18 July 1766 by colonists who had been recruited by Baron de Boffe. Heinrich Degott served as the colony's first major (Vorsteher), and it is after him that the colony received its German name.
Today, nothing substantial remains of the former colony of Degott.
The original colonists of Degott were of the Roman Catholic faith.
