Friedrich Östreich, a farmer, and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Messer on 7 June 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 7.

By 1798, a descendant of the Östreich family had moved to the neighboring colony of Merkel.

The 1767 census records that Friedrich Östreich came from the German district of Isenburg.
