Johann Heinrich Strauch, son of Johann Georg Strauch & Anna Catharina Rodel, was born 19 March 1725 in Nidda. He married Anna Martha Hartung. She had been born 30 April 1726 in Darmstadt.
Heinrich Strauch, a farmer, his wife Anna, and children (Johann, age 18; Wilhelm, age 15; Anna Margaretha, age 12; Peter, age 5) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the ship Der Junge Mathias under the command of Skipper David Wollert. Heinrich died after arriving in Russia and his widow Anna Marta remarried to Peter Frick.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Dönhof on 18 June 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 63 along with her surviving children.
In 1795, widower Johannes Strauch moved from Dönhof to Kutter.
Son Wilhelm is recorded on the 1798 census in the colony of Beideck in Household No. Bd56.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Heinrich Strauch came from the German region of Darmstadt.
