Discussion & Documentation

Nikolaus Nein, a farmer, and his family arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Schilling. Surviving sons Johannes and Christian are recorded there on the 1775 census in Households No. 60 & 64 and on the 1798 census in Households No. Sg063 & Sg067.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Nikolaus Nein came from the German region of Isenburg.
