Discussion & Documentation

There are two Seibert families that settled in the Volga German colony of Warenburg on 12 May 1767. Their relationship to each other is not recorded, but they also arrived together from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 18 June 1766 aboard the ship Mann und Frau under the command of Skipper Daniel Berg.

(1) Christoph Seibert, a farmer, his wife Anna, and children (Barbara, age 17; Georg, age 15; Jakob, age 11; Katharina, age 7; Bertil, age ½) arrived in Oranienbaum. Recorded on the 1767 census of Warenburg in Household No. 59 are Christoph (age 50), his wife Anna Maria (age 43), and his children by his first wife (Georg, age 16; Johann Jakob, age 12; Margaretha, age 9).

(2) Martin Seibert, a farmer, his wife Anna, and children (Hans, age 18; Anna, age 16; Barbara, age 12; Kaspar, age 7, and Nikolaus, age 1½) arrived in Oranienbaum. Recorded on the 1767 census of Warenburg in Household No. 47 are Martin (age 44), a tailor (Schneider), his new wife Maria Elisabeth, and his children by his first wife (Johann Georg, age 18; Barbara, age 14; Kaspar, age 12; Nikolaus, age 3). In 1793, Nikolaus Seibert moved from Warenburg to Dinkel.

The 1767 census of Warenburg records that both of these Seibert families came from the German village of Wintersheim in the Franconia region.

An Andreas Seifert [sic] (age 26) is recorded on the 1798 census of Laub with a note that he is working in Dinkel. The death of this Andreas Seibert [sic] in 1829 is recorded on the 1834 census of Laub in Household No. 103. He apparently had no male descendant lines.
