Discussion & Documentation

There are two Heil families recorded on a list of Beauregard recruits appended to the 1767 census. They are believed to be father and son because of their ages and adjacent recording on the list.

(1) Adam Heil (age 48), a farmer, his wife Elisabeth, and children (Maria, age 12; Elisabeth, age 9; Johann Adam, age 5) are recorded on the Beauregard List in Household No. 59 along with a note that they settled in the colony of Luzern in 1768.

In 1791, Adam Heil moved from Luzern to Ober-Monjou.

(2) Philipp Heil, a farmer, and his wife Katharina are recorded on the Beauregard List in Household No. 60 along with a note that they settled in the colony of Zug in 1768.

The 1767 census records that both of these families came from the German village of Orb.
