Helfenbein

There are two Helfenbeins from the village of Landenhausen who immigrated to the Volga German colonies. Their relationship to each other, if any, needs additional research.

(1) Johannes Helfenbein married on 12 April 1766 in Büdingen to Susanna Lufft.

Johann[es] Helfenbein and his wife Susanna arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 11 August 1766 aboard the Russian galliot named Citadel under the command of Midshipman Gregory Bukharin.

Kaiser (Dönhof)

Jakob Kayser, son of cobbler Johann Adam Kayser & Anna Margarete Froschäuser, was born 8 July 1746 in Gelnhausen, east northeast of Frankfurt.

Jakob Kaÿser from Gelnhausen & Eliesabetha Firnberiger [sic] were married on 10 April 1766 in the Lutheran Church of Büdingen.

Jung (Ernestinendorf)*

Johann Heinrich Jung was born 5 March 1734 in Staufenberg. He married there on 18 January 1759 to Anna Maria Heibertshausen, the widow of Caspar Schwarz. She had been baptized there on 23 September 1731. They had three children, all in Staufenberg: (1) Johannes, born 16 January 1760; (2) Johann Magnus, baptized 26 January 1762; and (3) Johann Caspar, baptized 3 June 1764.

Johann (Anton)

Johann Michael Johann, son of Hans Michael & Eva Johann, was born on 28 February 1739 in Ober-Schönmattenweg (east of Weinheim), today in Baden-Württemberg. He was baptized on 4 March 1739 in Wald-Michelbach. He immigrated to Denmark (Schleswig-Holstein) arriving in Fridericia on 1 May 1760.

The parish register of Fredericia [Denmark] records on 26 May 1760 that Johann Michael Johann from Siedelsbrunn married Eva Margaretha Sattler, daughter of Johann Peter Sattler. She has been born in about 1736 in Affolterbach.

Jest / Jöst (Anton)

Johann Adam Jöst, son of Johann Adam & Eva Jöst, was born 27 February 1741 in Siedelsbrunn (east of Weinheim) and baptized on 2 March 1741 in nearby Wald-Michelbach.

He immigrated to Denmark (Schleswig-Holstein) where he married on 13 June 1760 in the Karup Parish of Schleswig-Flensburg to Eva Katharina Rothermel, daughter of Georg Ludwig Rothermel & Anna Catharina Heym, and probably related to Georg Rothermel. She was born on 21 February 1740 in Hammelbach and baptized on 23 February 1740 also in Wald-Michelbach.

Junker (Rohleder)

Johann Nikolaus Junker married the widow Anna Margaretha Mohr on 6 February 1759 in the Catholic Church in Becherbach. Anna Margaretha already had a daughter, Katharina Mohr (born about 1748).

Johann Nikolaus & Anna Margaretha had two children, both baptized in Becherbach: (1) Maria Magdalena (Helena), baptized on 11 November 1759; and (2) Johannes Jakob, baptized on 1 May 1762.

Johann Nikolaus and his family immigrated to Russia arriving in the Volga German colony of Rohleder on 14 July 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 Census in Household No. 29.

Jansen / Jantzen / Janzen

Abraham Jantzen, son of Cornelius Jantzen (1744-1828) & his second wife Agnetha Dyck (1777-1861), was born 6 November 1797 in Brodsack. He married in nearby Broeske on 6 December 1818 to Gertrude Jantzen, daughter of Dietrich Jantzen (1754-1808) & Gertrude Bergmann (1768-1801). She was born on 28 August 1794.

Abraham, Gertrude, and their children moved to Hahnsau and are recorded living there on the 1857 Census in Household No. 13.

Today, Brodsack is located in Poland and known as Chlebówka.

Jakel / Jäkel / Jeckel (Balzer)

Johann Heinrich Jakel, son of Johann Jacob & Catharina Jäckel, was born 1 April 1722 in Dauernheim. He married in Düdelsheim on 27 January 1746 to Johanna Catharina Est(h)er Burbach, daughter of Johann Heinrich Burbach. She had been born in Düdelsheim on 21 August 1718.

The baptisms of the children of Johann Heinrich Jakel & Johanna Catharina Ester Burbach are recorded in the parish register of Düdelsheim: (1) Johann Friedrich, baptized 31 August 1749; (2) Heinrich Peter, baptized 29 September 1752; and (3) Anna Catharina, baptized 4 May 1758.

Jungmann (Yagodnaya Polyana)

The baptisms of the following children born to Johann Heinrich & Anna Catharina Jungmann are recorded in the parish register of Wallernhausen: (1) Anna Maria, born approximately 1737, died 24 March 1757; (2) Maria Elisabetha, baptized 5 June 1745; (3) Helena Margaretha, baptized 5 July 1748; (4) Johann Ludwig, baptized 27 December 1750, died 16 December 1764; (5) Johann Heinrich, born 25 March 1753, baptized 27 March 1753; (6) Elisabetha Catharina, baptized 24 December 1757; and (7) Johann Conrad, baptized 30 January 1761.

Jacobi / Jacoby (Dönhof)

Johann Jacob Jacobi married Anna Maria Stauch, and they had six known children, each baptized in the Evangelical Church of Neunstetten, 30 kilometers east of Heilbronn: (1) Hans Michael, on 17 October 1748; (2) Hans (Johann) Wilhelm, on 17 February 1751; (3) Johann Jacob, on 3 February 1755; (4) Johann Valentin, on 28 January 1757; (5) Georg Philipp, on 26 October 1759; and (6) Friedrich Eberhard, on 15 May 1763.
