Felsing

There are two Felsing families that immigrated to Russia. Their relationship to each other, if any, needs further research.

(1) Johann Jacob Völzing, son of Heinrich Völzing & Anna Christina Jost, was born in Kestrich and baptized on 4 November 1719 in Groß-Felda. Johann Jacob Felsing married in Kestrich on 25 November 1751 to Anna Elisabeth Scharmann, daughter of Johann Georg Scharmann. Anna Elisabeth Scharmann had been born in 1727 in Köddingen.

The baptisms of four children, all born in Kestrich to Johann Jacob Völzing & Anna Elisabeth Scharmann, are recorded in the Groß-Felda parish register: (1) Johann Heinrich, born 19 June 1753, baptized 22 June 1753; (2) Anna Margaretha, baptized 16 April 1756; (3) Johann Conrad, baptized 11 February 1760; and (4) Johann Caspar, baptized 11 April 1766.

Jakob Felsing, his wife Johanna [sic], and children (Johann [Heinrich], age 13; Johanna [sic], age 10½; Karl, age 6; Kaspar, age 1) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 June 1766 aboard the ship George under the command of Adam Bairnsfair [not 4 July 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax as published by Igor Plehve in 2010].

Jacob Felsing, his wife Anna Elisabet, and children (Johan. Heinrich, age 14; Anna Margaretha, age 12; Johann Conrad, age 7; Johann Caspar, age 1) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

(2) Ludwig Jakob Fälsing from Gießen & Elisabetha Herdt from Offenbach were married on 4 April 1766 in the Lutheran Church in Büdingen.

Ludwig Felsing, a cobbler from Hessen [sic], and his wife Elisabeth arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 June 1766 [not 4 July 1766 as published by Igor Plehve in 2010] aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

Ludwig Jakob Felsing appears to have died after arrival in Russia along with the wife of Johann Jakob Felsing. Johann Jakob Felsing remarried to Elisabeth Herdt, widow of Ludwig Jakob Felsing.

Johann Jakob Felsing, his wife Elisabeth Herdt, and children (Johann Heinrich, age 15; Margaretha, age 12; Konrad, age 8; Kaspar, age 2) are recorded on the 1767 census of Paulskaya in Household No. 44. They had settled there on 7 June 1767.

Johann Heinrich Felsing and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Paulskaya in Household No. Pl55.

Johann Konrad Felsing and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Paulskaya in Household No. 77.

Kaspar Felsing moved to the colony of Nieder-Monjou where he died. His widow and children are recorded on the 1798 census of Nieder-Monjou in Household No. Nm51. Philipp Felsing, another son of Kaspar Felsing, is recorded on the 1798 census of Paulskaya in Household No. Pl55.

Kasper's sons are recorded on the 1811 census of Nieder-Monjou in Household No. 51. There are no known surviving male lines of the Felsing family in Nieder-Monjou.

Philipp Felsing and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Paulskaya in Household No. 65.

Johannes Felsing, believed to be a descendant of Johann Jakob Felsing, moved to the colony of Kukkus before the 1798 census and is recorded there in Household No. Kk39.

Jakob Felsing, believed to be a son of Johann Jakob Felsing, and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Schilling in Household No. Sg066.

The death of Jakob Felsing in 1829 is recorded on the 1834 census of Schilling in Household No. 92.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Jakob Felsing was a carpenter from the German region of Darmstadt while the 1767 census records that he was a farmer from the village of Gießen.

Karl Stumpp records that Jakb. Joh. Völtzing (Völsing), a farmer from Kestrich/Alsfeld, went to the colony of Paulskaya.
