Discussion & Documentation:

Johannes Funck, son of Georg Heinrich Funck & Ottilia Sauerwein, was born 10 February 1703 and baptized 12 February 1703 in Altheim. He married in Altheim on 7 January 1738 to Anna Catharina Fischer, daughter of Johann Wilhelm & Anna Rosina Fischer. She had been born 11 August 1706 and baptized 13 August 1706 in Sickenhofen.

The baptisms of six children born to Johannes Funck & Anna Catharina Fischer are recorded in the parish register of Altheim. One of them is Johann Michael, born 8 July 1741. A note in the Altheim Familienbuch records that Johann Michael went to Russia.

Johann [Michael] Funk, a farmer, and his wife Gertrude arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 14 September 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Reders.

Johann Michel Funck [sic] and his wife Gerdruth [sic] are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Hussenbach where they are recorded on the 1798 census in Household No. Hs077.

The death of Michael Funk in 1801 is recorded on the 1811 census of Hussenbach in Household No. 77.

[One publication of the 1798 census also identifies a Peter Funk in Household No. Hs042, but he has been proven to actually be Peter Fuchs in later documents.]

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Funk came from the German region of Hanau.
