Leonhard Heil, a hunter (Jäger), his wife Katharina, and children (Demuth [?], age 3½; Sebastian, age ¼) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 7 May 1766 aboard the galliot named Anna Katharina under the command of Skipper Daniel Heyer.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Kaneau on 7 June 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 56.
In 1786, Leonhard Heile and his family moved from Kaneau to Graf.

The death of Leonhard Heile in 1818 is recorded on the 1834 census of Graf in Household No. 54.

Peter Heile from Kaneau, presumed son of Leonhard Heile, and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Graf in Household No. Gf15. There are no known surviving male lines of this Peter Heile family among the Volga German colonies.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Leonhard Heil came from the German region of Schwaben (Swabia). The 1767 census records that Leonhard Heil came from the German village of Egenik in the Schwaben (Swabia) region.
