Johann Christian Herting, a farmer, and his family arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 21 July 1766 aboard the snow-brig Mercurius under the command of Skipper Christian Heinrich Abelßen.
Apparently only daughter Elisabeth Katharina survived to settle in the Volga German colony of Urbach on 3 July 1767 where she is recorded on the 1767 census in Household No. 50 with a note that she is living with the Michael Totei family. The 1767 census does not record a relationship between the Herting and Totei families.
The 1767 census records that Elisabeth Katharina Herting came from the German village of Halle in the Brandenburg region.
