Johann Hoff, a farmer, and his wife Christina settled in the Volga German colony of Frank in 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 23.
The 1767 census records that Johann Hoff came from the German village of Langen in the Hessen-Darmstadt region.
