Klein (Kautz)
David Klein, a farmer, his wife Sabina, and children (Katharina, age 19; Daniel, age 17; Appolonia, age 13; Barbara, age 9; Philipp, age 6; Margaretha, age 3) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 18 July 1766 aboard a Russian packet-boat named Svyataya Ekaterina (St. Catherine) under the command of Midshipman Alexander Trusov.
Widower David Klein and his children (Katharina, age 19; Daniel, age 17; Appolonia, age 14; Anna Barbara, age 11, Philipp, age 8; Margaretha, age 4) are recorded on the 1767 census of Kautz in Household No. 3. They had arrived in Kautz on 20 May 1767.
Before 1798, Daniel Klein's widow and children moved from Kautz to Merkel.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that David Klein came from the German region of Pfalz. The 1767 census records that he came from the German village of Freimersheim in the Kurpfalz.
