Karl Joseph Kruse and his wife Anna arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the ship Der Jager under the command of Skipper Gabriel Wild.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Laub on 12 July 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 20.

Karl Joseph Kruse and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Laub in Household No. Lb34.

The death of Karl Joseph Kruse in 1801 is recorded on the 1811 census of Laub in Household No. 34.

Johann Karl Kruse, son of Karl Joseph Kruse, is recorded on the 1811 census of Laub in Household No. 34 along with a note that he relocated to the colony of Straub [year not recorded].

[Johann] Karl Kruse from Laub and his sons (Peter Andreas, age 6; Johannes, age 4) are recorded on the 1811 census of Straub in Household No. 61 along with a note that he had arrived in Straub from Laub in 1809.

Johann Christian Kruse, son of Karl Joseph Kruse, is recorded on the 1811 census of Laub in Household No. 34 along with a note that he relocated to the colony of Stahl am Tarlyk in 1809.

Johann Christian Kruse from Laub is recorded on the 1811 census of Stahl am Tarlyk in Household No. 13 along with a note that he arrived in Stahl am Tarlyk from Laub in 1809.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Karl Joseph Kruse was a druggist while the 1767 census records that he was a farmer.

The 1767 census records that Karl Joseph Kruse came from the German village of Grebenhain in the Alsfeld region.
