Johann Peter Reckling, a craftsman (Handwerker), and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Schäfer on 1 August 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 15.

Johann Georg Reckling and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Schäfer in Household No. Sf12.

In 1786, Georg Wilhelm Reckling moved from Schäfer to Graf.

Georg Reckling from Schäfer and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Graf in Household No. Gf10.

Ludwig Reckling and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Schäfer in Household No. 74 along with a note that they had arrived in Schäfer from Graf in 1834.

The 1767 census records that Johann Peter Reckling came from the German village of Magdeburg in the Brandenburg region.
