Augustin Riedel, a soldier (Soldat), and his wife Anna Maria settled in the Volga German colony of Herzog on 14 July 1766 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 11.

Michael Riedel, presumed to be the son of Augustin Riedel, and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Herzog in Household No. Hr24.

The 1767 census records that Augustin Riedel came from the German village of Regensburg.
