Johann Georg Rothgang, a single tailor (Schneider), arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 15 September 1766 aboard the Danish galliot Nord Stern under the command of Skipper Detlev Belling.

Johann Georg Rothgang is recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

He settled in the Volga German colony of Lauwe on 5 September 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 55.

In 1788, Johann Rothgang and his family moved from Lauwe to Laub.

Georg Rothgang and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Laub in Household No. Lb05.

The sons of Georg Rothgang and their families are recorded on the 1834 census of Laub in Households No. 20 & 92.

The 1767 census records that Johann Georg Rothgang came from the German village of Munningen in the Enslingen region.
