Schmidt (Dietel-2)
Andreas Schmidt, a farmer, his wife Anna, and children (Johann Gottlieb, age 20; Anton, age 17½; Johann Daniel, age 14; Johann Karl, age 7; Katharina, age 3) arrived from Reval [Estonia] at the port of Oranienbaum on 30 May 1766 aboard the pink Lopamink under the command of Lieutenant Kryukov.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Dietel.
The 1798 census of Dietel records sons [Johann] Karl in Household No. Dt13, [Johann] Daniel in Household No. Dt59, and [Johann] Gottlieb in Household No. Dt68.
There is an Anton Schmidt recorded on the 1798 census of Merkel, the neighboring colony, in Household No. Mr26. His age in 1798 does not fit with this family but he could be Andreas's son recorded as arriving in Oranienbaum in 1766.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Andreas Schmidt came from the German region of Schwarzburg.
