Schneider (Göbel)

Johann Schneider, son of Johann Wilhelm Schneider from Albstadt, married 12 February 1737 in Altenmittlau to Anna Eva Huffnagel, daughter of Johannes Huffnagel from Altenmittlau.

The births of the following children are recorded in the parish register of Altenmittlau: (1) Anna Maria, born 31 January 1738; (2) Anna Margaretha, born 22 September 1740, died 22 October 1740; (3) Anna Maria, born 21 October 1741, died 20 October 1742; (4) Maria Elisabeth, born 23 October 1743, died 19 April 1745; (5) Johann Adam, born 29 April 1746; (6) Eva Catharina, born 9 April 1749; (7) Sebastian, born 5 March 1752; and (8) Maria Elisabeth, born 11 June 1755.

Johann Schneider, a farmer, his wife Anna, and children (Johann, age 21; Eva, age 18; Sebastian, age 16; Elisabeth, age 13) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

The parents died and the children settled in the Volga German colony of Göbel on 20 June 1767. Oldest son Johann Adam is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 70 along with his new wife Anna Maria. The remainder of the children are recorded in Household No. 74.

They are recorded on the 1775 census of Kamenka in Household No. 88.

Oldest son Johann[es] is recorded on the 1798 census of Kamenka in Household No. Km077.

Son Sebastian is recorded on the 1798 census of Göbel in Household No. Gb46.

Philipp Schneider from Göbel and his family are recorded on the 1857 census of Josefstal in Household No. 56.

The 1767 census records that this Schneider family came from the German village of Altenmittlau in the Hanau region.
