Seib (Sewald)

Johann Adam Seib was born in 1717 in Nierstein, a town located 29 kilometers north of Worms in the modern German State of Rhineland-Palatinate. He married on 14 April 1744 to Maria Elisabetha Vooss, the daughter of Johann Valentin & Agness Maria Vooss, in the Catholic Church in Guntersblum, 10 kilometers south of Nierstein. Maria Elisabetha had been baptized in this church on 13 January 1726.

They had three known children, each baptized in Guntersblum: (1) Maria Sybilla, baptized on 26 February 1745; (2) Franz Carl, born on 24 February 1748 and baptized on 25 February 1748; and (3) Johannes, born and baptized on 4 January 1751.

Johann Adam's wife died, and he remarried to Barbara (surname unknown). They had a girl named Anna Katharina, baptized on 18 Dec 1763 in the Catholic Church in Alsheim, 4 kilometers south of Guntersblum.

Johann Adam Seib and his family immigrated to Russia as colonists of the recruiters De Beuve and Precourt. They arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard a Russian packet-boat named Saratov under the command of Lieutenant Ivan Perepechin.

On 20 August 1767, the Seib family arrived in the Volga colony of Sewald. They are recorded there on the 1767 Census in Household No. 18. Their descendants are recorded still living in Sewald on the 1798 Census in Households No. Sd12 & Sd27.

Son Franz Carl Seib is recorded on the 1767 census of Sewald in Household No. 19 along with a note that he relocated to the colony of Dietel in 1768. Franz Karl Seib and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Dietel in Household No. Dt22. Franz Karl Seib is recorded on the 1811 census of Dietel in Household No. 22. Franz Karl Seib is recorded on the 1834 census of Dietel in Household No. 138 along with a note that he died in 1823. There were no further descendants of the Seib family in the colony of Dietel.

The 1767 census records that both Adam Seib and his son Franz Karl Seib came from the German village of Nierstein in the Pfalz region.
