Stein (Orlovskaya)*
Melchior Stein, a carpenter, his wife Katharina, and children (Christoph age 8; Konrad, age 4; and Anna, age 1½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 8 August 1766 aboard the galliot Anna Katharina under the command of Skipper Johann Joachim Janson.
Melchior Stein, his wife Catarina, and children (Christopher, age 9; Conrad, age 4; Anna Maria, age 2; Eleonora, born en route) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
Christoph Stein (age 10) and his brother Konrad (age 5) are recorded on an appendix to the 1767 census of Paulskaya in Household No. 48 along with their stepfather Stephan Wittig.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Orlovskaya.
In 1778, Christoph Stein moved from Orlovskaya to Hummel.
Christoph Stein from Orlovskaya and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Hummel in Household No. Hm23.
The Konrad Stein and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Orlovskaya in Household No. Or51.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Melchior Stein came from the German region of Darmstadt.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Stein family among the Volga German colonies.
