Discussion & Documentation

Nikolaus Volmer, a salter (Salzsieder), and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Volmer on 18 July 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 1 along with a note that Nikolaus Volmer is serving as the colony's mayor (Vorsteher). It is after him that the colony took its German name.

In 1789, Peter and Nikolaus Volmer moved from Volmer to Semenovka.

The 1798 census of Volmer (Household No. Vm49) records that Georg Volmer is living in Neu-Kolonie.

The 1767 census records that Nikolaus Volmer came from the German village of Dürkheim in the Kurpfalz region.
