Johann Philipp Vorath, a farmer, his wife Margaretha Dorothea, and children (Margaretha Dorothea, age 25; Katharina Maria, age 23; Hans, age 22; Katharina Maria, age 20; Katharina Elisabeth, age 13; Johann Karl, age 5½; Christina, age 3½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 8 August 1766 aboard the Danish galliot Der Engel Rafael under the command of Skipper Ehlert Kongsted along with Katharina (age ¾) who is believed to be the daughter of Katharina Maria.

Their children settled in the Volga German colony of Laub on 15 September 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 67.

Johannes Vorath and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Laub in Household No. Lb39.

The 1798 census of Dinkel records that Karl Vorath is living in Household No. Dn12.

The death of Karl Vorath in 1822 is recorded on the 1834 census of Dinkel in Household No. 60.

Johann Georg Vorath, son of Karl Vorath, and his family are recorded on the 1850 census of Dinkel in Household No. 100.

Jakob Friedrich Vorath, son of Karl Vorath, and his family are recorded on the 1850 census of Dinkel in Household No. 101.
