Yurga, Kemerovskaya Oblast (Siberia)

The village of Yurga was established in 1886 on the banks of the Tom River. In 1915, construction of the railway to the Kolchuginsky coal mines began.

Following the Deportation Decree in 1941, Volga Germans from the colony of Enders (among others) were resettled there.  Many died during the first years they were in Yurga, and were buried in a mass grave. A memorial has been created at the site of the mass grave.

In 1943, construction of the Yurga Machine-Building Plant was completed, and what had been a village became an industrial center for the region.

Moinkum, Shuskaya District, Zhambyl Region, Kazakhstan

When the Volga Germans arrived, this settlement was called Moinkum.  At some point it was changed to Druzhba, and recently back to Moinkum. Although both are located in the Zhambyl Region of Kazakhstan, this Moinkum, located about 22 kilometers north of Shu in the Shuskaya District, should not be confused with another Moinkum (also called Furmanovka) which is further northwest in the Moinkum District, about 80 kilometers from Shu.

Most Volga Germans who lived in Moinkum have immigrated to Germany.

Faust (Kutter)

The lists of the recruiter Johann Facius records that Phillip Faust, age 20, came from Wolferborn.

Philipp Faust, a single farmer, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard a snow-brig named Christina under the command of Skipper Jacob Stappenberg.
