Discussion & Documentation

Johann Michael Stricker, a farmer, and his family immigrated to Denmark (Schleswig-Holstein), arriving in Flensburg on 26 June 1762 along with three other families (Ehrhardt, Kaufmann, & Weiss) who eventually settled in the Volga German colony of Shcherbakovka.

The Strickers are last recorded in the Danish colonies on 6 June 1763. They joined the migration to Russia.

Johann Ludwig Stricker, son of Johann Michæl Stricker & Anna Margretha Barbara Schmidt, was baptized on 30 August 1764 in St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Lübeck.

The family settled in the Volga German colony of Shcherbakovka on 15 June 1765. Johannes Michael Stricker, a farmer, his wife Anna Margaretha Barbara, and sons (Johann Christoph, age 7; Johann Philipp, age 6; Johann Andreas, age ¼) are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 1 along with a note that he was serving as the colony's mayor (Vorsteher).

The 1798 census of Shcherbakovka records (Household No. Sv36) that Philipp Stricker is serving as the schoolmaster in the neighboring colony of Müller.

Johann Georg Stricker from Shcherbakovka and his family are recorded on the 1857 census of Gnadentau.

The Eichhorns record that Johann Michael Stricker came from the German region of Württemberg. The 1767 census records that he came from the German village of Münchenroth [?]
