Willerwald, département Moselle, France

Willerwald is located in northeastern France, very near the German border, a few kilometers south of Saarbrücken in the historical region of Elsass-Lothringen.

Willerwald was owned by the Prince of Saarbrücken until 1766 when it became part of the Duchy of Lorraine which was controlled by France.

The first church built in Willerwald was dedicated to Saint Nicholas and completed in 1777. A new Gothic-style church with a 60-meter belfry was built in 1910-1911. It was destroyed in 1941 during the World War II German occupation of this area. The current building was constructed in 1955 and dedicated again to St. Nicholas.
