Johannes Jacob Weiss, son of Johannes Adam Weiss & Eva Altvatter, was born 13 January 1733 in Glashofen. The family there has been traced back to his great-great-grandparents in 1600, the earliest records located for this church.
Jakob Weiss, a carpenter (Zimmermann), his wife, his mother-in-law, and his sister-in-law immigrated to Denmark (Schleswig-Holstein), arriving in Flensburg on 26 June 1762. They left the Danish colonies on 8 June 1763 and joined the migration to Russia.
