Johann Georg Abig, son of Johann Abig & Susanna Maria Froschhäuser, was born on 27 September 1745 in Gelnhausen, northeast of Hanau. He married on 18 March 1766 in Büdingen to Anna Maria Schröder. Anna Maria had an illegitimate daughter Anna Barbara Schröder who had been born 19 February 1762, also in Gelnhausen.

Johann Georg Abig, a cobbler, and his wife Anna Maria arrived from Lübeck in Oranienbaum aboard the Russian pink Vologda on 10 August 1766 under the command of Lieutenant Sergey Bartenyev.

Johann Georg & Anna Maria arrived in Grimm and is recorded there on the 1767 Census in Household No. 56 along with daughter Anna Elisabeth (age 1) who had been born in route to Russia.

They are recorded on the 1775 census of Grimm in Household No. 132.

Georg Abig and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Grimm in Household No. Gm062.

The death of [Johann] Heinrich Abig, son of Georg Abig, in 1826 is recorded on the 1834 census of Dobrinka in Household No. 116 along with and his sons Wilhelm & Ludwig.

Wilhelm Abig and his family are recorded on the 1850 census of Dobrinka in Household No. 154.

Gottfried Abig, son of Johann Peter Abig, and his family relocated to the colony of Stephan in 1833.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Georg Abig came from the German region of Hanau while the 1767 census records that he came from the German village of Gelnhausen.
