Discussion & Documentation:

Inna Behler reports on the forum of the Wolgadeutsche.net site that the marriage of Franz Begler (born in about 1750) to Ursula Waldschmidt is recorded in Luzern. This Franz Begler has not been located on other documents.

Ursula Kaiser née Waldschmidt is recorded on the 1798 census of Luzern in Household No. Lz31 along with her children (Leonhardt, age 23; Adam, age 19; Johannes, age 8; Christina, age 7). Later records identify these children with the surname of Begler.

(1) Leonhardt Begler died Luzern in 1815.

Johannes Begler and his siblings, children of Leonhardt Begler, are recorded on the 1834 census of Luzern in Household No. 20 along with a note that their brother Heinrich Begler relocated to the colony of Katharinenstadt.

Heinrich Begler from Luzern and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. 267 along with a note that he arrived in Katharinenstadt from Luzern in 1834.

Heinrich Begler from Katharinenstadt is recorded on the 1857 census of Neu-Ober-Monjou.

(2) Adam Begler and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Luzern in Household No. 54.

(3) Johannes Begler and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Schönchen in Household No. 26.

Documents in Russia record this surname with a variety of spellings, most often Begler, but also Bechler, Pechler, Bichler, Pichler, and Bögler.
