Discussion & Documentation

There are two Butherus families recorded on the 1798 census of Walter:

(1) Johann Heinrich Butherus and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Walter in Household No. Wt037.

(2) The widow and descendants of Christian Butherus are recorded on the 1798 census of Walter in Household No. Wt080.

Christoph Butherus, son of Christian Butherus, and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Walter in Household No. 133.

Georg Butherus, son of Christian Butherus, and his family moved from Walter to Merkel in 1818 [according to the 1834 census of Walter] 1823 [according to the 1834 census of Merkel] and are recorded on the 1834 census of Merkel in Household No. 60.

A relationship between these two families is not recorded on the 1798 censuses. They have not been located in earlier documents related to the Volga Germans.
