Valentin Degenhardt and his brothers Jakob and Johann Adam settled in the Volga German colony of Rothammel on 21 August 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 3 along with the Heinrich Frank family. The 1767 census does not record a relationship between the Degenhardt and Frank families.

(1) Jakob Degenhardt (age 36) and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Sewald in Household No. Sd04.

(2) Valentin Degenhardt (age 44) and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Sewald in Household No. Sd25.

The 1767 census records that Valentin Degenhardt came from the German village of Bernhards in the Fulda region.
