Engel (Zug)
Johannes Adam Engel, son of Johannes Jacob Engel & Maria Ellisabetha Heim, was baptized 18 September 1741 in St. Martin's Catholic Church in Orb.
Adam Engel, a single farmer, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax along with several other families from Orb.
Joh. Adam Engett [sic] is recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
Johann Adam Engel, a farmer, and his wife Magdalena are recorded on a list of Beauregard recruits (Household No. 74) appended to the 1767 census of the Volga German colonies.
In 1775, Magdalena Engel [believed to be the widow of the above Johann Adam Engel] and her children moved from Zug to Wittmann.
Anton Engel from Zug, his family, and his brothers are recorded on the 1798 census of Wittmann in Household No. Wm29. Notes on this census record that Anton's brother Peter Engel is working in Ober-Monjou and that brother Christoph Engel is working in Katharinenstadt.
Christoph Engel and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Ober-Monjou in Household No. 14.
The 1767 census records that Johann Adam Engel came from the German village of [Bad-]Orb.
