There are two Herdt families who both arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard a galliot named Concordia under the command of Skipper Jakob Bauert. They both settled in the Volga German colony of Schwab on 8 July 1767. They are presumed to be father and son, but further research is needed to confirm this relationship.
(1) Heinrich Herdt, a farmer, his wife Maria, and sons (Dorothea, age 19; Johann, age 17½) arrived in Oranienbaum.
Johann Heinrich Herdt (age 60), a farmer, his wife Maria Christina, and son Johann Karl (age 18) are recorded on the 1767 census of Schwab in Household No. 22.
Johann Karl Herdt is recorded on the 1798 census of Schwab in Household No. Sb28.
(2) Johann Herdt, a farmer, his wife Elisabeth, son Johann (age 10¼), and servant Peter [surname not recorded] (age 20) arrived in Oranienbaum.
Johannes Herdt, a farmer, his wife Elisabeth, and sons (Johann Adam, age 11; Georg Peter, age ½) are recorded on the 1767 census of Schwab in Household No. 21.
Adam Herdt is recorded on the 1798 census of Schwab in Household No. Sb27.
The death of Johannes Herdt, son of Adam Herdt, in 1818 is recorded on the 1834 census of Schwab in Household no. 93.
Georg Jakob & Heinrich Peter Herdt, sons of Johannes Herdt, and their families are recorded on the 1857 census of Friedenberg.
In 1790, Peter Herdt moved from Schwab to Dobrinka.
Peter Herdt from Schwab is recorded on the 1798 census of Dobrinka in Household No. Db18.
Immanuel Herdt, son of Peter Herdt, his brothers, and their families are recorded on the 1834 census of Dobrinka in Households No. 29 & 121.
Johann Peter Herdt, son of Immanuel Herdt, and his family are recorded on the 1850 census of Dobrinka in Household No. 158.
Johann Peter Herdt and his family are recorded on the 1857 census of Dobrinka in Household No. 169 along with a note that they relocated to the daughter colony of Rosenberg in 1852. They are recorded on the 1857 census of Rosenberg in Household No. 36.
In 1790, Johannes Herdt [father not known] moved from Schwab to Müller.
Johannes Herdt from Schwab is recorded on the 1798 census of Müller in Household No. Ml04.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that both of these families came from the German region of Darmstadt. The 1767 census records that they came from the German village of Bobenhausen.
