Wilhelm Michel, a carpenter, and his wife, Anna, arrived from Lübeck at the port in Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard a Russian packet-boat named Severnyi Orel (Northern Eagle) under the command of Lieutenant Pyotr Malenkov.  They settled in the Volga German colony of Dietel on 1 July 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 38.

In 1794, Wilhelm Michel and his family moved from Dietel to Bauer.

Wilhelm Michel from Dietel and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Kautz in Household No. Kz34. Andreas Michel, presumed to be son of Wilhelm Michel, and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Kautz in Household No. Kz35.

The death of Wilhelm Michel in 1800 is recorded on the 1811 census of Kautz in Household No. 34.

Andreas Michel and his family are recorded on the 1811 census of Kautz in Household No. 35.

Andreas Michel and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Kautz in Household No. 29.

Joachim Michel, son of Wilhelm Michel, and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Kautz in Household No. 45.

Philipp Michel, presumed to be a son of Wilhelm Michel, from Kautz and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Dietel in Household No. Dt22.

The 1767 census records that Wilhelm Michel came from the district of Baden.
