Johann Michael Obermann, a French soldier (Französischer Soldat), his wife Anna, and children (Johannes, age 12; Nikolaus, age 9; Katharina, age 7) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 15 September 1766 aboard the ship Der Junge Heinrich under the command of Skipper Heinrich Niemann.
Michael Hoppermann [sic] and his family are recorded on an appendix to the 1767 census of Kaneau (No. 7). They evidently settled in the Volga German colony of Hockerberg.
In 1773, widow Katharina Obermann and her children moved from Hockerberg to Ober-Monjou.
In 1780, Johannes Obermann moved from Ober-Monjou to Hummel.
In 1786, Nikolaus Obermann moved from Ober-Monjou to Katharinenstadt.
In 1789, Nikolaus Obermann and his family moved from Katharinenstadt to Graf.
In 1794, Heinrich Obermann moved from Ober-Monjou to Wittmann.
The 1798 census of Graf records Nikolaus Obermann in Household No. Gf05. The 1798 census of Hummel records Johannes Obermann in Household No. Hm13.
The death of Johannes Opermann [sic] is recorded on 23 March 1802 (at the age of 52) in the parish register of Hummel.
The 1767 census records that Michael Hoppermann [sic] came from the German village of Oberhof.
