Saalfeld (Schilling)
The following children were born to Johann Karl Saalfeld (died 10 December 1763) & Maria Christina Vogt (21 October 1702 - 25 February 1743) in Gießen: (1) Peter Daniel, born 6 november 1722, died 10 November 1722; (2) Maria Elisabeth, born 11 September 1725; (3) Johann Philipp, born 28 April 1732; (4) Christine Elisabeth, born 26 September 1733, died 1 May 1809 [in Gießen]; (5) Karl Philipp Gerhard, born 17 December 1736; (6) Anna Elisasbeth Charlotte, born 16 December 1737; and (7) Karl Gottfried Conrad, born 5 July 1742.
Carl Gottfried Conrad Saalfeld [child No. 7] married Elisabetha Schierart on 1 April 1766 in Büdingen, one of the gathering places for Germans applying to immigrate to Russia [in the Büdingen parish register, his name is recorded as Carl Gottlieb Conrad Saalfeld]. She was a daughter of Reichard Schierart & Anna Dorothea Stefan, and had been baptized on 18 March 1742 in the Evangelical Church of Offenbach (am Main) near Frankfurt.
Carl Saalfeld & his wife immigrated to Russia, departing from Lübeck by the English frigate Love & Unity with skipper Thomas Fairfax at the helm. They arrived at the Russian port of Oranienbaum on 9 June 1766 [4 July 1766 as published by Igor Plehve is incorrect].
Karl Saalfeld, a wig-maker, his wife Elisabeth, and their children (Johann Nikolaus, age 7½; Georg Michael, age 5½; Regina Elisabeth, age 3¾) are recorded on the 1775 census of the Volga German colony of Schilling in Household No. 68. Widow Elisabeth is recorded on the 1798 Schilling census in Household No. Sg071.
The death of Nikolaus Saalfeld, son of Karl Saalfeld, in 1834 is recorded on the 1834 census of Schilling in Household No. 97.
Brothers Peter & Jakob Saalfeldt from Schilling are recorded on the 1857 census of Konstantinovka.
Son Georg Michael moved in 1793 to Stahl am Tarlyk, Georg Michael Sahlfeld from Schilling and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Stahl am Tarlyk in Household No. St13.
Daughters Regina and Catharina Barbara moved to Jost where they are recorded in 1798 in Households No. Jo34 & Jo52.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Karl Sahlfeld came from the German region of Hessen.
