Schleicher / Schleuger (Balzer)

There are several descendants of the Schleucher family from Lieblos who are affiliated with the Volga German colony of Balzer. Their relationship to each other, if any, needs further research.

(1) Heinrich Peter & Elisabetha Margaretha Schleucher had two sons who were born in Rothenbergen: (a) Johann Heinrich, born 6 December 1741, baptized 10 December 1741; and (b) Johannes, born 10 April 1745, baptized 16 April 1745.

Johann Heinrich Schleucher married on 12 January 1764 in Rothenbergen to Elisabetha Wilhelm, daughter of Caspar & Gertraudt Wilhelm. Elisabetha Wilhelm had been baptized in Rothenbergen on 27 February 1729. She was the widow of Michel Kern when she married Johann Heinrich Schleucher.

The marriage of Johannes Schleuchert [sic], a farmer (Bauersmann), and Maria Magdalena Götz, daughter of Peter & Elisabetha Margareatha Götz, is recorded in the parish register of St. Jacob's Lutheran Church in Lübeck on 27 May 1766 to Maria Magdalena Götz. Maria Magdalena Götz had been baptized on 18 May 1744 in Lieblos.

Johann Heinrich & Johannes Schleucher and their families arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 August 1766 aboard the pink Slon under the command of Lieutenant Sergey Panov. They both settled in the Volga German colony of Balzer on 8 August 1767.

(a) Heinrich Schleuger, a farmer, and his wife Elisabeth arrived in Oranienbaum. They are recorded on the 1767 census of Balzer in Household No. 99 along with Elisabeth's children (Maria [Kern], age 18; Michael [Kern], age 9) who also arrived with them in Oranienbaum. [See Kern Family.]

(b) Johann[es] Schleuger, a farmer, and his wife Maria/Anna Magdalena arrived in Oranienbaum. They are recorded on the 1767 census of Balzer in Household No. 101.

In 1788, Kaspar Schleuger moved from Balzer to Lauwe.

In 1792, Johannes Schleuger and his family moved from Balzer to Krasnoyar.

In 1793, Konrad Schleuger moved from Balzer to Jost.

Philipp Schleuger from Balzer is recorded on the 1798 census of Nieder-Monjou in Household No. Nm52.

Philipp Schleicher is recorded on the 1811 census of Nieder-Monjou in Household No. 52 along with a note that he relocated to the colony of Krasnoyar in 1806.

The death of Philipp Schleicher in 1807 is recorded on the 1811 census of Krasnoyar in Household No. 27.

(2) Wilhelmina Henrietta Schleuger, daughter of Johann Michel & Anna Catharina Schleuger, married on 16 June 1746 in Grundau to Conrad Juncker. [See Juncker Family.]

The Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that both of these Schleuger families came from the German region of Isenburg.
