Discussion & Documentation

Johann Philipp Stroh, son of Johann Georg Stroh & Gertraude Neubecker, was born 23 October 1712 in Sprendlingen. He married in Sprendlingen on 2 December 1738 to Catharina Schickedanz, daughter of Cyriac Schickedanz & Anna née Schickedanz. Catharina had been born in Sprendlingen on 3 June 1711.

The baptisms of the following children born to Johann Philipp Stroh & Catharina Schickedanz are recorded in the parish register of Sprendlingen: (1) Elisabetha Maria, born 31 August 1739; (2) Johann Philipp, born in 1740; (3) Johann Michael, born 30 December 1742; and (4) Daniel, born 24 February 1747.

Michael Stroh arrived from Reval [Estonia] at the port of Oranienbaum on 30 May 1766 aboard the pink Novaya Dvinka under the command of Lieutenant Ivan Perepechin.

He is recorded on the 1767 census of Frank in Household No. 30. He married Elisabeth Gruning.

In 1798, Johannes Stroh moved from Frank to Dobrinka. Johannes Stroh from Dobrinka and his family is recorded on the 1811 census of Frank in Household No. 139.

Konrad Stroh is recorded on the 1857 census of Frank in Household No. 96 along with a note that he relocated to the colony of Hussenbach in 1856. Konrad Stroh from Frank and his family are recorded on the 1857 census of Hussenbach. Konrad Stroh from Hussenbach and his family are recorded on the 1857 census of Neu-Hussenbach.

The 1767 census records that Michael Stroh came from the German village of Sprendlingen in the Isenburg region.

[A note in the Familienbuch Sprendlingen (p. 1564) references research by Heinz Hang of Offental who reports that Johann Michael Stroh from Sprendlingen departed for Russia, but that he doesn't appear to have arrived there. This does not appear to be an accurate statement.]
