Stroh (Frank)
Michael Stroh, a hosier (Strumpfwirker), was born 30 December 1742 in Sprendlingen, Offenbach, Hessen. He was the son of Johann Philipp Stroh (born 23 October 1712) and Katharina Schicketantz (born 3 June 1711).
He arrived from Reval [Estonia] at the port of Oranienbaum on 30 May 1766 aboard the pink Novaya Dvinka under the command of Lieutenant Ivan Perepechin. He settled in the Volga German colony of Frank in 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 30. He married Elisabeth Gruning.
In 1798, Johannes Stroh moved from Frank to Dobrinka. Johannes Stroh from Dobrinka and his family is recorded on the 1811 census of Frank in Household No. 139.
Konrad Stroh is recorded on the 1857 census of Frank in Household No. 96 along with a note that he relocated to the colony of Hussenbach in 1856. The 1767 census records that Michael Stroh came from the German village of Sprendlingen in the Isenburg region.
