Peace Lutheran Church - Alexander
Peace Lutheran Church was located approximately 4 miles NE of Alexander. This congregation disbanded and its members and the parish records were transferred to the First Lutheran Church in LaCrosse.
Grunauer
Emanuel Grunauer, son of Abraham Grunauer & Ursula Roth, was born 22 July 1894 in Basel, Basel-Stadt Kanton, Switzerland. He studied at the Basel Theological Seminary, and served the Volga German parish in Katharinenstadt from 1820-1823. From 1823 to his death in 1850, he served the parish in the colony of Messer. He died 1 April 1850 in Messer.
Cattaneo
Johann Baptist Cattaneo, son of Thomas and Ursula Cattaneo, was born 27 June 1746 in Lavin, Graubünden Kanton, Switzerland. He studied at the Reformed Theological Seminary in Zürich, Switzerland, and was ordained 26 June 1766 in nearby Süs. He married Barbara Thomas.
Fuchs, Johann Heinrich
Pastor Johann Heinrich Fuchs is the only known member of the clergy who immigrated along with the original colonists to the German colonies along the Volga River in the 1760s. It is not known from where he received his theological training. He served the colony of Messer from 1767-1770 and also the colony of Norka from 1767-1769.
He then served several parishes in Russian villages before returning to Riebensdorf where he served from 1798-1801. He died near Moscow in 1802 while on a trip.
Salem Congregational Church - Sanger
In late summer 1907, a group of Volga German immigrants who had settled in and around Sanger gathered for a prayer meeting and decided to form a congregation affiliated with the German Congregational Church. Articles of incorporation were officially filed with the State of California on 21 April 1908.
