VGI Updates

von Feldt

Christian von Feldt was born in approximately 1786, probably in France.  He served in Napoleon's army and fought against the Russians.  He was captured by the Russians, and in 1812 was settled in the Volga German colony of Mariental.

Christian von Feldt is recorded on the 1834 census of Mariental in Household No. 226 along with a note that he relocated to the colony of Herzog in 1818.

Arn(h)old (Rosenheim-3)

Joseph Arnold was born in approximately 1787, probably in France.  He served in Napoleon's army and fought against the Russians.

He was captured by the Russians, and in 1812, was settled in the Volga German colony of Rosenheim.  He is recorded there on the 1850 Census of Rosenheim in Household No. 93 as having died in 1840. 

von Arkel

Stephen von Arkel was born in approximately 1786, probably in France.  He served in Napoleon's army and fought against the Russians.  He was captured by the Russians, and in 1812, is believed to have settled in the Volga German colony of Anton.  However, he is recorded on the 1834 Census of Straub in Household No. 87.  The 1834 Census also records that he died in 1816, apparently without heirs. 

Altag

Johann Friedrich Altag was born in approximately 1792, probably in France.  He served in Napoleon's army and fought against the Russians.

He was captured by the Russians, and in 1812, was originally settled in the Volga German colony of Krasnoyar.

He is recorded on the 1834 census of Messer in Household No. 187 along with a note that he moved to the colony of Franzosen in 1825.

Friedrich Altag from Messer and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Franzosen in Household No. 109 along with a note that he died there in 1830.

Alexander

Michael Alexander was born in approximately 1792, probably in France.  He served in Napoleon's army and fought against the Russians.  He was captured by the Russians, and in 1812, was settled in the Volga German colony of Norka.

He is recorded on the 1834 Census of Norka in Household No. 119, married to Anna Maria Lorei, daughter of the deceased Johannes Lorei.

Michael Alexander does not appear on the 1857 Census of Norka, although his descendants do, so he must have died before 1850. 

Matz (Soldier)

Martin Matz was born in approximately 1788, probably in France.  He served in Napoleon's army and fought against the Russians.  He was captured by the Russians, and in 1812, was settled in the Volga German colony of Katharinenstadt.  His first wife was Dorothea Karolina Houbre (Ubert) and his second wife was Dorothea Weltz.  He died in Katharinenstadt on 9 September 1854.

Schlegel (Huck)

Johann Conrad Schlegel, son of Johannes and Anna Catharina Schelgel, was baptized in Wolferborn on 16 May 1728. He married Elisabeth Wagener, daughter of Johann Heinrich Wagener, on 12 February 1754 in Wolferborn. The baptisms of four of their children are recorded in the Wolferborn parish register: (1) Johannes, 25 February 1754; (2) Hermann, 23 June 1757; (3) Nicolaus, 9 March 1760; and (4) Johann Jobst, 18 February 1763.

Hilß

 Johann Hülst, son of Just Wilhelm Hülst & Johanna Elisabeth Juncker, was born 13 August 1747 and baptized on 17 August 1747 in Gedern.

Johannes Hilß is recorded on the list of immigrants by Johann Facius: Actum Aufenau den 10 Februar 1766 Johannes Hilß, 18 Jahre alt, ledigen Standes, von Gedern, ein guter Ackerknecht, evangelischer Religion [Gathering at Aufenau on 10 February 1766 was Johannes Hils, 18-years-old, single, from Gedern, a good farmhand, Lutheran].
