VGI Updates

Georg Bengler, a farmer, his wife Maria, and children (Christian, age 20; Katharina, age 14; Peter, age 7) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 June 1766 aboard the ship Mann und Frau under the command of Skipper Daniel Berg.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Preuss on 16 August 1767.

Widow Maria Magdalena Bengler and children (Maria Katharina, age 15; Stephan Peter, age 8) are recorded on the 1767 census of Preuss in Household No. 130 along with a note that father Georg had died in Preuss on 13 October 1767.

Jakob Schweigert, a butcher (Fleischer), his wife Katharina, and son Gottlieb (age ¼), arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 June 1766 aboard the ship Mann und Frau under the command of Skipper Daniel Berg.

The parish register of Schilling records the birth of Anna Dorothea Schweiger[t], daughter of Jakob Schweiger[t] & Maria Barbara Rückner, on 3 May 1767 in Kolomna while en route to the colonies.

Bartel[omeus] Krug, a farmer, his wife Sophia, and children (Johann, age 9; Susanna, age 6) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 June 1766 aboard the ship Mann und Frau under the command of Skipper Daniel Berg.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Preuss on 15 July 1767 where they are recorded on the 1767 census in Household No. 126.

Gottlieb Margheim settled in the Volga German colony of Merkel on 28 August 1766.  He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 32.

The 1767 census records that he came from the area of Dresden in Saxony.

The baptism of Johann Heinrich Maÿ, son of Sebastian Maÿ from Rothenbergen, is recorded in the Gründau parish register on 6 February 1729.  Catharina Daubert, daughter of Conrad Daubert from Mittelgründau, was baptized on 21 March 1734.  Johann Heinrich and Catharina married in Rothenbergen 31 July 1755. The Gründau parish baptismal register records four of their children, each born in Rothenbergen: (1) Johannes, born 24 August 1757; (2) Elisabetha, born 10 February 1760; (3) Anna Catharina, born 6 May 1762; and (4) Hartmann, born 30 December 1765.

There are two Mohr families recorded in the Volga German colony of Yagodnaya Polyana. Their relationship to each other, if any, needs further research.

(1) Johann Konrad Mohr, a farmer, and his wife Agnetta Christina arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 16 August 1766 aboard a galliot named Frau Diederika (Lady Diederika) under the command of Skipper Johann Joachim Lunau.

Johann Benner, a single farmer, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 18 August 1766 aboard the galliot named Die Perle (The Pearl) under the command of Skipper Gerhardt Hermann Thomsen.

Johannes Penner [sic] is recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

He arrived in the Volga German colony of Yagodnaya Polyana on 16 September 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 5 along with his new wife Katharina.
