Schmidt (Kaneau)

Kaspar Schmidt, a farmer, his wife Anna, and daughters (Anna Maria, age 9; Elisabeth, age 6; Anna Elisabeth, age 6-months) are recorded on the 1767 census of Kaneau in Household No. 65. They had settled there on 10 May 1767.

Gottlieb Schmidt from Kaneau and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Ernestinendorf in Household No. Er15.

The 1767 census records that Kaspar Schmidt came from the German village of Vetzberg.

Scheffler (Kaneau)*

Christian Scheffler, a farmer, his wife Dorothea, and [step-]children [surname Specht] (Michael, age 17½; Maria, age 15; Christian, age 6) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

Christian Scheffler, his wife Mari. Dorothea, and [step-]children [surname Specht] (Joh. Michael, age 17½; Maria Elisabet, age 15½; Christian, age 7) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Schäfer (Kaneau)

Johann Valentin Schäfer (age 12) and his siblings (Anna, age 10; Otto Heinrich, age 2) are recorded on the 1767 census of Kaneau in Household No. 68 along with their stepfather Johann Adam Windemuth.

In 1786, Valentin Schäfer and his family moved from Kaneau to Schaffhausen.

The 1767 census does not record from where the Schäfer children came.

Göbel (Kaneau)

Philipp Göbel, a farmer, and his wife Anna settled in the Volga German colony of Kaneau on 10 May 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 58.

The 1767 census records that Philipp Göbel came from the German region of Villingen.

Hartmann (Kaneau-2)*

Widow Maria Hartmann (age 55) is recorded on the 1767 census of Kaneau in Household No. 90. She had settled there on 7 August 1767.

The 1767 census records that Maria Hartmann came from the German village of Oranienbaum in the region of Sachsen (Saxony).

There are no known survivng male lines of this Hartmann family among the Volga German colonies.

Hartmann (Kaneau-1)

[Johann] Gottlieb Hartmann, a farmer, his wife Maria, and son Johann [Gottfried] (age 9) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

Gottlob Hartmann, his wife Maria Elisab., and children (Joh. Gottfriedt, age 9; Gottlieb Erdmann, born en route) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Klehmann (Kaneau)

Johann Gottfriedt Klemann [sic] & Anna Elisabeth Retz were married on 6 April 1766 in Roßlau.

Gottfried Klehmann, a farmer, his wife Anna, and [step-]son Johann [Retz] (age 15) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 10 August 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Nikolaus Peter Pink.

Gottfried Klemann [sic], his wife Elisabeth, and [step-]son Johann Christoph [Retz] (age 15) are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Müller (Kaneau-5)

Philipp Müller, his wife Anna, and son Johann (age 13) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

Philip Müller, his wife Anna Margaretha, and son Joh. Heinrich (age 13) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that Anna Margaretha and son Joh. Heinrich died en route.

Müller (Kaneau-4)*

Johann Christian Müller, a single Hussar (Husar) - member of the light cavalry, settled in the Volga German colony of Kaneau on 3 August 1767. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 43 along with the orphaned Konrad von Rau (age 14). The 1767 census does not record a relationship between the Müller and von Rau families.

The 1767 census records that Johann Christian Müller came from the German region of Wesel.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Müller family among the Volga German colonies.
